STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

The entire basement floor was added and was admitted as a reinforced base plate to absorb the loads from the rolling shelf units (archive use). The existing ceilings of the historic building made of brick or Ackermann type were examined extensively mathematically for the new use, with the aim to change only the segments which it is absolutely required. In addition, architects and analysts together created spatial occupancy and load concepts and therefore were able to obtain much of the ceilings in the offices.

A particular challenge for our engineers was the historic stucco ceiling in the "Great Hall". Here substantial moisture penetrations had led to substantial constructional damage. New dependencies had to be calculated and designed, while a special construction for the new hall lighting was developed.
