STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

The newly constructed centre for media and social work of the University of Mittweida was ceremoniously open on 22nd of August 2014. The project included two buildings, the four-storied new construction including the parking level and the two-storied traditionally constructed existing building, which has been removed as far as possible.
The solid construction has two storeys, brickwork outer walls, reinforced concrete flat slabs and no basement.
The L-shaped new construction with a main usable area of 5.572 m² and a gross floor space of 12.244 m² has been constructed as four-storied solid construction (reinforced concrete) with partial basement used as technology floor. The ground floor in the south wing of the building has been extended by a technology sector as well as a parking deck. The campus garden is located on the roof of this southern extension of the building.  Outstanding constructional requirements of this construction project are a variety of diagonally-positioned components with a large cross-section, hollow core slabs in in-situ concrete, generous ceiling spans and self-supporting stairs.
