STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

The existing building has been preserved in its qualities and supplemented with new, modern and reduced elements. The main element of reconstruction was the new accession sculpture indicating the way from the foyer into the vertical direction. In this way the future accommodation rooms of the youth hostel can be reached. The effortless steel sculpture is twisted around two massive concrete cores containing a lift and an external lifting platform for a barrier-free entrance to the building. To reach the third upper level the staircase breaks through the roof panel and finds its upper limit in a simple aluminium-glass-construction being suspended from a cantilevered massive ceiling.
